Teaching and learning: Students’ perspective on their socialization practice in the field of biography

The paper addresses the problem of professional socialization into sociology, more strictly into the field of biography on the university level. The author develops the idea of a pragmatic and paradigmatic approach towards biographical research which is seen as consisting of different stages of entering the field of biography during the education process on BA, MA and specialization levels. The socialization process itself is seen as a long-term process connected with students’ personal and professional development and formation of their identity. The analysis is based on a small research project with different groups of students and their perspectives on their socialization process. As a result the notion of a qualitative researcher’s identity is proposed as a specific type of professional sociological identity.

Lehren und Lernen: Perspektiven Studierender auf ihre Einzelsoziolisation in die Biographieforschung

Zusammenfassung

Der Aufsatz behandelt das Problem der professionellen Sozialisation in der Soziologie, inbesondere im Bereich der Biographieforschung in Universitäten. Die Autorin entwickelt die Idee eines pragmatischen und paradigmatischen Ansatzes im Hinblick auf Biographieforschung, wobei unterschiedliche Phasen der Einsozialisation in die Biographieanalyse auf der Ebene von Bachelor-, Master- und Spezialisierungsstudiengängen unterschieden werden. Der Sozialisationsprozess selbst wird als ein langfristiger Ablauf verstanden, der mit der persönlichen und professionellen Entwicklung von Studierenden und ihrer Identitätsbildung verbunden ist. Die Analyse gründet auf einem kleinen Forschungsprojekt zu unterschiedlichen Gruppen von Studierenden und ihren Perspektiven auf den Sozialisationsprozess. Als Ergebnis wird die Vorstellung einer qualitativen Forscheridentität entwickelt (als eines Sondertyps der professionellen soziologischen Identität).
